December always seems to be an exciting month! The hustle and bustle of the holiday season creates an electric atmosphere! Here are some local events that will help you stay involved and close out 2011 with a bang! Enjoy!
Tree Lighting Festival
When: Friday December 2nd, 2011 @ 5:00 pm
Where: Sammons Park, Dallas, TX
The event features live performances of holiday music by local entertainment, a visit from Santa for photos, children's activities, and carriage rides, all leading up to the grand finale—the lighting of the 30-foot Christmas tree in the Center's Sammons Park. Aquarium Overnight
When: Friday December 2nd, 2011 @ 7:00 pm
Where: Children's Aquarium at Fair Park
Guests will spend the night literally...sleeping with the fishes! Sleep in (and among) five aquatic zones and thousands of fish in the galleries of the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park. Take a special, guided tour in the evening, participate in activities and crafts, get a delicious nighttime snack and then in the morning, a continental breakfast and a special keeper talk! Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Christmas Celebration

Where: Hilton Anatole Hotel

Autumn at the Arboretum

Fall has officially arrived! The gardens are blooming with the colors of the season, and activities are planned from now through the day before Thanksgiving. The grounds will be filled will fall flora and more than 50,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds. 2011 Help The Homeless Walk & 5K

at Band Shell Amphitheater at Fair Park, Dallas, TX

Thousands of walkers and runners will put their soles into ending homelessness at the 5th Annual Help the Homeless Walk & 5K. This year's event will honor our homeless veterans. There are many veterans in the homeless population who access services at The Bridge, which supports Veterans Affairs Outreach Offices on site. Approximately 20% of Dallas' homeless population is veterans.
The November 12th event will also feature a concert by Emerald City, Dallas/Fort Worth's favorite party band. In addition, there will be other activities that are fun for the entire family including food, interactive games and more. Proceeds from this year's Walk & 5K will be used to support The Bridge. At the assistance center, people experiencing homelessness can get help with healthcare, jobs and permanent housing from 14 co-located agencies. read more

TRAVEL & ADVENTURE SHOW EXPLORES NEW TERRITORY FOR 2011
The Travel & Adventure Show returns to Dallas November 12-13, 2011 with new additions like The Fiery Foods Challenge, and The Golf Experience. Returning attractions include free scuba diving, zip-lining and rock wall climbing, along with music, dance and more than 100 destination exhibits.
It opens at the Dallas Convention Center on Saturday, November 12, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 13, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
